Patch 4.3 is available for download, and so now seems like an appropriate time to offer some friendly reminders about the patch.
A Few Updates Regarding the 4.3 PTR

After the cut you’ll find some recent news regarding the PTR: no more BiS gun, BM gets and AoE buff and FD updates to include 4.3 items.
Shot Changes on the PTR

In the latest PTR build, cast times on Aimed, Steady and Cobra Shots have been reverted to their normal durations (they had previously been reduced by .5 seconds each). Also, Zeherah reports that the Explosive Shot buff affects the full shot.
Steady, Cobra and Aimed Shot Cast Times Reduced on the PTR
Posted in Hunter, World of Warcraft, tagged aimed shot, cobra shot, CS, HAiS, Hardcast Aimed Shot, PTR, SS, steady shot on October 3, 2011 | 11 Comments »
We’ve received conflicting reports from the PTR on Steady and Cobra Shot cast times. Frostheim claims that our casted shots are “not changing at all” in the present PTR build; however, a thread over at the Arena Junkies forums asserts that cast times have been reduced by .5 seconds. Who is right? Well, according to my tests, the AJ thread is right. See my numbers on Steadies, Cobras and Aimed Shots after the cut.
Episode 101!

This episode, we get right back to your regular scheduled hunter programming. We barely have time to get over a third of the things that happened since our last real (non-drunken) show, and still managed to make a few factual errors. We talk about the 4t12 set bug, and it turns out that despite what we said on air, it actually allows hunters to fire more than one free shot. Also, despite Frostheim’s protests, the current cast time on aimed, steady, and cobra shots are indeed shortened by 0.5 seconds. In his defense, I made him turn off the PTR download during the podcast because it was making him sound worse than usual.

A Note on Traps from the PTR

The 4.2 patch notes say “Traps now scale with hunter stats such as hit, expertise, spell penetration and attack power as intended.” Will this change the way we dps?

The Canadian Duck Flu and Feral Druid Mange have struck again. This time, both Frostheim and Euripides were unable to attend the show, leaving Darkbrew in the good care of Michele Morrow, who graciously agreed to cover for both missing hosts. Rumors abound as to the “coincidental” timing of both hosts’, who theoretically live in different countries, sicknesses.
As it stands, Darkbrew and Michele ended up discussing a wide variety of interesting topics, including the new multishot changes, and the official forum campaign to have Frost immortalized in-game with a pair of hairy bracers. And, of course, the Foam Weapon League.

Copying Your Addons and Addon Settings to the PTR
Posted in Resources, World of Warcraft, tagged addons, copy addons settings, PTR, transfer addons settings on October 3, 2010 | 2 Comments »
There is a good chance that you will want at least some of your addons with you on the PTR, such as Recount for DPS testing. If you are like me, you also will have limited patience and time for reconfiguring your addons to your exact specifications from scratch. This post offers help with these issues, explaining how to import both your addons and your addons’ settings to the ptr.
Hunter Pets to Level Faster!
Posted in Hunter, World of Warcraft, tagged leveling, patch 3.3, pets, PTR on October 16, 2009 | 4 Comments »
MMO-Champion mentions that in the next patch, the amount of experience needed to level a pet will be halved. Leveling pets is the one part of hunters I do not like. It’s more than made up for by the rest of the awesomeness that is being a hunter, but it’s grind-ey, monotonous, unrewarding, and a chore.
This will be a boon for people who want to tame pets that don’t have level 80 tamable versions (or have a skin they want below level 80).

Specs!
Posted in Beast Mastery, Hunter, Marksmanship, Survival, World of Warcraft, tagged 3.0.8, comparison, dps, dual specs, PTR on February 24, 2009 | 2 Comments »
Hunters won’t need dual specs when it comes out. We only have one spec, and that’s the “Awesome” tree. Put all your points into it, and you’ll top the dps charts.
Just kidding, we have 3 trees to put our talent points in, and the reason you won’t need dual specs is because no matter what you do, you’ll fail at any PvP more serious than battlegrounds. Moving on (and it’s not easy, I know), the three trees we can choose to allocate our talent points to are: Beast mastery, Marksmanship, and Survival.
I’m not going to try to characterise each tree with a metaphor or generalization. I’m not going to tell you that BM is for levelling, marks is for pvp, or whatever other nonsense I’ve read about on the net, I’m going to tell you which of these trees is (currently) all about topping the DPS meters in end game raids.
