I was reading this thread on elitist jerks, and it looks like at high levels of T8 Ulduar gear, marksman hunters can produce more DPS (modeled) than survival hunters. From the first post: Best MM Template: Total DPS: 7741,32 Hunter DPS: 6636,55 Pet DPS: 1104,77 AP: 8010 Crit: 57,37% Hit: 100% ArP: 282 Shot Queue: [...]

Third in my series of Ulduar fights from a hunter’s perspective is XT-002 Deconstructor. First off, unless you really absolutely need sound on this fight, turn it off. You’ll thank me later. Blizzard decided to make this fight more about being able to take the horrible voice they gave this boss than the mechanics themselves. [...]

Continuing my series on Ulduar encounters from a hunter’s perspective, Razorscale. Much nerfed recently, the Razorscale encounter is still lots of fun, and a challenge if you’re undergeared. My guild got her to 2% health when we inadvertently 9 manned her (forgot to summon someone), and the tank had forgotten to take off some non-tanking [...]

I was so excited about this post, I used two exclamation points in the title. That’s one over my budget, but I’ll just have to try and save one from another post sometime. Well, the servers have been up and down like a toilet seat. I haven’t been able to play for long, and we [...]

I’m going to write a little about 3.1. Not all the changes because they’re mostly still not ready, but certain things that are of importance now.
3.1 Money!

OK, short post today because I have to get cracking offline. When 3.1 hits, you have a large opportunity to make money. All the new gear that starts to drop from Ulduar as well as the changes to all the trade skills are going to mean economic shifts. If you’re on the right side of [...]
Sniper Training vs Trap Dancing!

There are two perfectly functional hunter builds that you can use to magnify the effects of your explosive shots. One uses sniper training, the other uses resourcefulness to increase your lock and load procs (remember, these builds are baselines- spend the remainder of your points as you see fit). Both are viable and used by [...]
Pets!

As as survival hunter, you can expect your pet to be a very minor contribution to your damage. In fact, if a pet dies in a boss fight, it typically takes him 5-10 times as long as the revive pet spell cast time to simply replace the damage you would have done had you not stopped to bring the little guy back. Still, 10%-20% of your damage comes from it, so if you respecced from beast mastery, count your blessings. The one skill you bring over to survival that many survival hunters never bothered learning is keeping a pet alive.
