This patch contained a lot of awesome. One of the smaller awesomes, however, was that our pets gained some new functionality from cower and lost the old functionality. Today we’re going to go over the changes, as well as some potential use cases. (more…)

After reading Xanther’s post about this, I remembered I had heard of a fix to this new call stabled pet bug (thanks to Bierzun in my guild for pointing this out to me).

The gist of the bug is that when you use call stabled pet, the cooldown is set to 25 days instead of 5 minutes.

The fix is simple: just queue up for an arena (or a skirmish, if you’re allergic to arena) and it will do some sort of hard reset that fixes the bug.

edit: it appears this bug only appears when you use the ability in a cross server group.

I’m not kidding when I say that the new misdirect is probably one of my favorite changes in patch 3.3. Every time a tank says “holy mackerel- I had 20k threat on that boss”, I smirk.

It’s a win win. For the cost of a GCD (the first one is free), you help keep your tank ahead of all the DPS and healers. Every threat reset, you can blast away for 4 seconds without hovering your finger over the feign death button. A couple of hunters in a 25 man are able to vault a tank so far ahead of the DPS in the first few seconds after a pull or threat reset that the overall DPS of the raid can be increased by a non-trivial amount. This is assuming your locks and mages are watching threat, and know about this change. (more…)

Hi folks. We have a podcast that with any luck will be ready before the patch is live, however in the meantime, here’s a bunch of interesting links I found in my reader this morning about patch 3.3:

This week, Darkbrew and Euripides talk about weekly raid quests, pet leveling speed, a new site for reporting ninjas to the public, and then answer a listener email about how to measure and report hunter DPS, for example when applying to a pug. Frostheim, from the Warcraft Hunters Union, then comes on and all heck breaks loose.

MMO-Champion mentions that in the next patch, the amount of experience needed to level a pet will be halved. Leveling pets is the one part of hunters I do not like. It’s more than made up for by the rest of the awesomeness that is being a hunter, but it’s grind-ey, monotonous, unrewarding, and a chore.

This will be a boon for people who want to tame pets that don’t have level 80 tamable versions (or have a skin they want below level 80).

Coiamin pointed this out to me on the 3.3 hunter changes post- all of the crafted agility mail has no intellect on it. Could this mean that we’ll become ranged rogues before the actual launch of cataclysm? Take a look (links open new window):

Thanks for the tip Coiamin!

The patch 3.3 test realm notes were released today. Of interest:

Hunter
Misdirection: Redesigned. Instead of having finite charges, it now begins a 4-second timer when the hunter using Misdirection performs a threat-generating attack, during which all threat generated by the hunter goes to the friendly target. In addition, multiple hunters can now misdirect threat to the same friendly target simultaneously.
Beast Mastery
Intimidation: If the hunter’s pet is in melee range of its target, the stun from Intimidation will now be applied immediately instead of on the pet’s next swing or attack.
Pets
Avoidance: Now reduces the damage your pet takes from area-of-effect damage by 30/60/90%, but no longer applies to area-of-effect damage caused by other players.

Jurgwena’s gonna be pissed about that last one. Avoidance is a fairly important part of PvP survivability, and there is no counter balance to make this less of a nerf.

For PvE, however, this is nice. The avoidance change is a nice bonus compared to what it is now, and the misdirection change is just pure win. No more complex charges and rotations, just throw it up every cooldown and continue to blast away. Excellent.
