Improved Hunter’s Mark is an easily reachable talent in the marksmanship tree that everyone’s min/max calculations assume you have. The default “best buffs” button on the DPS calculator has it set to 3/3 talents and glyphed too. Who should take IHM? How should this be decided? Ideally, the person who is giving up the least [...]

I’ve seen this a fair bit lately: hunters with double (and even triple!) the hit rating needed to never miss a raid boss. How did they get there? What can you do to avoid getting there, and how can they get out?

Today I’ll be going over how to gem and enchant your hunter, regardless of spec. First off, you need to know what goal will give you the most bang for your buck. To that end, import your character into www.femaledwarf.com and we’ll get started. Here‘s a guide for how to use it if you’re not [...]

**Note: much of this post is reused from the last version, but the comments there were left over several patches, so I’m updating it and reposting. 0/15/56 is the survival spec that gets me the most DPS. Lets go over the basics, and why I took (or didn’t take) things. In general, you want to [...]

Hi folks, today you’re going to get a primer on how a hit capped raiding hunter can rearrange the deck chairs on the titanic and get DPS increases on gear with hit while hit capped! I was in Dalaran admiring the new gear I paid through the nose for, and glanced down at my hit [...]

We one shotted Malygos last night. 10 man only so far, but we have the 25 man key and will start trying to train more people on it. I got black ice, and am now happily trying to figure out a way to get under hit cap :) Some notes on the drake phase:

I got a PM on the elitist jerks boards asking for help. A hunter had been asked by his GM to figure out what he was doing wrong. He has graciously allowed me to post my advice on this blog, so here goes.

Itemization that comes standard on the gear we get is fairly straightforward. The hard part is deciding how to customize them. Then (harder for some) is paying for the gems and enchants we decide on.

Gear for success, and, well, no promises. Just do it.

Gearing a survival hunter is much simpler than gearing for beast mastery was before patch 3.0.8. Back then, we were all haste capped without any haste rating, and our life was a struggle to find stuff that didn’t spend all its’ itemization points on haste. Survival these days is much easier. All the stats you would expect us to gain from benefit us. I’m going to go down the list and talk about caps and diminishing returns when I have to.

To become an extraordinary DPSer, you need to make choices in spec, gear, play-style, and pets. Making the wrong choices is easy. Just do whatever seems best and don’t bother looking up your assumptions. Making good choices requires (ideally) a solid understanding of general PvE concepts, as well as a specific kind of knowledge that one could [...]
