I was playing around with Zeherah’s online dps modeler and found that four pieces of ilvl 352 Bloodthirsty pvp gear were better for my dps than the pieces of ilvl 346 pve gear I had equipped. This was true for all three specs (an SV dungeon build, an MM dungeon build and a standard BM build) that I ran through the modeler. The difference ranged from a few hundred dps (MM) to several hundred dps (SV) for me. Your mileage may vary, though, so I offer this post only as an encouragement to check out the merits of the pvp set gear for yourself at Zeherah’s site.

I realized I’ve never written up a guide about set pieces for marks hunters. This is a common question: “Should I stick with 2T9, or get my 4T10 bonus?”. This also has a very simple response: “Do whatever the DPS calculators say is more DPS, because they’re usually right”.

Interesting blue post here. Quoting relevant stuff:
Combat ratings - All ratings will be much harder to “cap out” at maximum gear levels. Ratings will be steeper in Cataclysm, and creatures in later tiers of content will be harder to hit or crit, similar to how level-83 mobs are harder to hit or crit than level-80 mobs. (more…)

There has been a surge in questions about the basics lately- people telling me that they are not producing enough DPS based on what they think they should do with the gear they have. I’m going to go over the basics today, and if you do everything you read here, you shouldn’t have that problem. (more…)

Edit: As of Dec. 7, 2010, this guide is thoroughly out of date.
How do you get gear that is fit for raiding if you are not already raiding? These days the answer is not simply “run heroics for drops.” The answer is a bit more complicated, and so I decided to write this guide.

Please note that this has been rewritten for 3.3 here.
Editor’s note: This excellent gear guide is a contribution from Eidotrope, a long time reader. It’s up to date for 3.2, and we’ll try to ensure it’s kept up to date going forward :)

If not just heroics, where else can you get gear before raiding? Blizzard wants to make it easy for you, so they provide a number of sources. You can earn raid emblems (used to purchase gear) by running heroics, you can run Argent Tournament dailies for seals (again used to purchase gear), you can obtain crafted or other “Bind on Equip” items, and you can still run heroics for drops.
