First, let me say thank you, Zeherah, for your continued efforts toward modeling hunter dps.  Second, I think it’s worth sharing that Zeherah updated her site with new options for modeling different MM rotations.  Continue reading after the break for a brief look at these changes.

Hi folks! I’m sure you’re all huge fans of Zeherah‘s Femaledwarf.com site, so I figured I’d post a quick guide for those who don’t like to read FAQs on how to link your output. This is very handy for people asking for help on forums or blogs, as well as just chewing ideas over with other hunters in your guild!

Step two: put your hunter in the box

You can get a lot of valuable functionality from Zeherah’s site without logging in, but sharing your character’s setup is not included. So log in, or create and account and log in: (more…)

Editors note: Please welcome the illustrious Zeherah, creator of www.femaledwarf.com! She has awesomely agreed to write up the occasional post when she can think of something that would benefit us! Today, it’s about how to learn from logs.

Step 1: Create a Log and Post It

Note: If your guild already posts logs to the web, you won’t need to create your own so you can skip this step, for those who don’t here’s how to do it.
  1. Use the /combatlog command to start your combat log when your raid begins. Use it again when you want to stop logging (typcially at the end of the raid). If you have to relog you’ll have to start logging again. There are mods to do this for you automatically if you like.
  2. When you are finished raiding, close WoW (to make sure the log buffer gets written out to the file) then go to the Logs folder in your World of Warcraft folder to find your log. The log file will be named WoWCombatLog.txt (if you like you can rename it so you can store it for future reference).
  3. Create a free account on a web log site. I recommend World of Logs (http://www.worldoflogs.com/) but there are other options if you prefer them. Download the client (which is usually a Java applet) and launch it.
  4. Select your log via the client and use the option to upload it to the server. When it’s finished, your log should be posted (and most likely it will be loaded into your browser automatically). (more…)

[edit 12 aug: fixed broken link, sorry for fat-fingering the first link to the site in question]

You’ve probably all been told at one point or another to “use the spreadsheet”. They mean this spreadsheet, and here‘s the guide I wrote for it. Since then, the cries for a version that would work for people who don’t have access to Microsoft Office could be heard for miles. Luckily for us, the always effervescent Zeherah has created an amazing online tool that does just this. (more…)

My paladin healers are busy guys. Between keeping my pet alive with splash heals from their holy light and actual heals that will bounce back to the tank through beacon of light, they’ve got a lot on their hands. That and I believe feign death is for pansies. Hunters were given a bubble for a reason!

All of this means that I’m lucky if they have time to judge the boss more than the strict minimum needed for their haste bonus, and that means judgment of wisdom‘s uptime can be fairly low. (more…)

From Ahunkaluvin:

“I’d like a guide to what the common mistakes are. For instance, I have pretty fair gear and have tried to put most of your lessons to practice, but somehow I still get nowhere near the DPS(about 1600-1800) of my fellow hunters. OK, So I suck, but, WHY? (other than just general suckiness)”

I’m not the kind of guy to tell someone how bad they are- if they ask for help, that puts them ahead of 90% of the hunters who are (currently) surpassing them in DPS. (more…)
