In the latest PTR build, cast times on Aimed, Steady and Cobra Shots have been reverted to their normal durations (they had previously been reduced by .5 seconds each). Also, Zeherah reports that the Explosive Shot buff affects the full shot.

Ability Spotlight: Explosive Shot
Posted in Hunter, Survival, World of Warcraft, tagged ability spotlight, ES, explosive shot, LnL, lock and load on March 24, 2011 | 2 Comments »
I started the Ability Spotlight series to shed light on commonly misunderstood hunter tools. I imagined writing about abilities that are underused but useful, abilities that improve huntering at the margins. However, as the hunter recruits to my guild and the hunter forums have shown me, even signature abilities can be persistently misunderstood. That is why [...]
Patch 3.3.3 Bug Fixes!
Posted in Hunter, World of Warcraft, tagged bug fixes, explosive shot, explosive trap, lock and load, patch 3.3.3, rapid fire on March 23, 2010 | 11 Comments »
Well, there goes my favorite bug: Phyllixia posted that explosive traps no longer provide a 100% lock and load on the first tick. The explosive trap bug was more of a trash hack- the only actual encounter it will really affect us on is the gunship, and that’s fairly roflstompable anyways. Also, rapid fire now [...]
Lock and Load- We’ve Been Doing it Wrong!

edit: I can’t believe I missed this post on the same subject. Lyraat used raid parses, which are more subject to RNG than simulationcraft’s batches of thousands of simulated fights, however it uses the actual game engine. Well, apparently I’ve been doing it wrong since patch 3.1 or something. The common knowledge of how to [...]
Excellent Explosive Shot Write-up!

Sorry for the lack of original content- nursing a sick baby. Pro-tip: don’t have kids if you’re squeamish. Blech. Garwulf from the Huntsmans Lodge has written up a very good guide about explosive shot for SV hunters. It answers a lot of questions new hunters have, and even has some gems of wisdom for the [...]

Mana management is not tricky. We all do it, and we’re all good at it. This post is going to go over a new macro that I believe could increase your damage throughput!

This is my first hard mode guide. Last night, I was invited to raid Ulduar 10 with the clique after we had to cancel the 25 due to an unfortunate coincidence of real life stun-locked healers. We can raid if we have to sub in DPS or tanks, but offspec healers won’t cut it. The [...]

From Ahunkaluvin: “I’d like a guide to what the common mistakes are. For instance, I have pretty fair gear and have tried to put most of your lessons to practice, but somehow I still get nowhere near the DPS(about 1600-1800) of my fellow hunters. OK, So I suck, but, WHY? (other than just general suckiness)” [...]

I’m going to go over misdirect today because there’s a few subtleties that some people may not know.
I take it back- I have time to post this!

I was reading this thread on elitist jerks, and it looks like at high levels of T8 Ulduar gear, marksman hunters can produce more DPS (modeled) than survival hunters. From the first post: Best MM Template: Total DPS: 7741,32 Hunter DPS: 6636,55 Pet DPS: 1104,77 AP: 8010 Crit: 57,37% Hit: 100% ArP: 282 Shot Queue: [...]

Everyone has an opinion about lock and load. It used to be the bread and butter of the trapdancing spec, and is now still an incredibly nice talent that’s well worth the points spent in it. What it does is proc from 20% of the ticks of black arrow outside its 22 second cooldown, providing [...]

I covered the shot priorities list. Now it’s time for macros. Some of you are thinking “Macros? I thought you said not to macro shots, just to weave them manually based on what’s available and highest priority?”. This is correct! However, and I went over this in the last patch, it’s fine to take all [...]
