This week, we welcome Kripparrian, hunter extraordinaire from the Exodus guild on Ysondre-US! This episode was recorded two weeks ago, and in it, we talk about the impending nerfs, some persistent bugs, and the best practices for playing a hunter at the highest possible level of content.

Here’s the site where we host our shows live.

There has been a surge in questions about the basics lately- people telling me that they are not producing enough DPS based on what they think they should do with the gear they have. I’m going to go over the basics today, and if you do everything you read here, you shouldn’t have that problem. (more…)

According to MMO-Champion, Abyssal Shatter is live on EU realms, and presumably will be live soon on US realms.

Abyssal shatter lets you break an abyss crystal into some more pedestrian mats: infinite dust and greater cosmic essences. This means that the price for abyss crystals might start raising again, after the ridiculous drop they saw when people started 5 of them every 15 minutes in ToC regular. I’m working on finding an average enchanting materials yield per shatter- I’ll update when I have one.

Edit: an average reported in wowhead for 25 shatters (which is not enough data to be incredibly accurate, but is enough to get an idea of scale) is 2.25 greater cosmic essences and 4 infinite dusts per shatter.

On my realm, normal mats cost is 13g for a GCE, and 3.5g for a dust. That puts the floor value of abyss crystals firmly above 40g, and they’ve been going for as low as 25g since ToC was launched.

Hey everyone, today I’m going to write a short post about enchanting your gear for PvP. It’s not as straightforward as you might think. What enchants you use obviously depend on your professions, to some extent, but hunters actually have a lot of flexibility and it’s important to know what you’re doing. (more…)

Patch 3.2.2 will bring about the ability to shatter abyss crystals. This is very probably in response to the massive decline in prices that crystals went through once people realized that a good 5 man group could run regular ToC and reset it as many times a day as they want, disenchanting all the purples they got in the process. This influx of supply brought out a massive cut in price, so on my server, I can easily get them for 30g each, and sometimes for less.

In 3.2.2, the demand for abyss crystals may go up depending on what they can be shattered into. I’m betting that Blizzard’s target for an average price for abyss crystals is not less than 50g, so I bought about 1000 abyss crystals over the last few weeks that I will either shatter myself or sell back to the AH.

This is a low risk investment- the supply of abyss crystals will stay about the same, but the demand will either remain the same (if the result of shattering is a low amount of mats) or go up (if it’s a high amount), but there’s little chance it will go down.

Another prediction- the price of regular mats (infinite dust, cosmic essences) will go down after the patch. If you’re in the enchanting business, don’t let your stock pile up.

Today I’ll be going over how to gem and enchant your hunter, regardless of spec. First off, you need to know what goal will give you the most bang for your buck. To that end, import your character into www.femaledwarf.com and we’ll get started. Here‘s a guide for how to use it if you’re not sure. Make sure you’re using a buff profile similar to what you can expect in your typical group, however if you raid 25 man, it’s safe to just click “Enable best raid buffs/debuffs”. (more…)

I posted the podcast and a guide yesterday, so I figure I deserve a hunter break. Instead of a link to the fail blog (oops), I figured I would write the next installment in my series about how to fund your raiding habit. (more…)

I went over this a while ago, but I keep on seeing one of the most common questions all over the various forums I watch: what professions should a hunter take? The answer is deceptively complex. (more…)

ps. if you only like my writing on hunter PvE and don’t want to read my rare economic posts, just skip this one. (more…)

I’m sick. I feel like Mike Tyson sucker-punched me right between the eyes. And I’m sneezing. So instead of continuing my series on trap dancing, I’m going to use this professions post I’ve been holding onto and go back to bed. I’ll write up a few bosses  in the trapdancing series tomorrow.

Your professions can make you money and help you raid. Deciding on which ones you want is important, because if you change your mind, you could waste a large sum of money. You need to figure out what you’re looking for. Are you trying to get a dps bonus for pve? Are you trying to make money? Do you want to be able to fill a specific roll in a raid? Sometimes your guild will ask you to pick up a profession because they need someone to have it. For example- enchanting allows you to shard drops that nobody needs, and the abyss crystals from those disenchanted epics can be used for some of the most expensive enchants in the game.

To start with, let’s go through some of the serious pve bonuses you get from professions. (more…)
