[edit 12 aug: fixed broken link, sorry for fat-fingering the first link to the site in question] You’ve probably all been told at one point or another to “use the spreadsheet”. They mean this spreadsheet, and here‘s the guide I wrote for it. Since then, the cries for a version that would work for people [...]

My paladin healers are busy guys. Between keeping my pet alive with splash heals from their holy light and actual heals that will bounce back to the tank through beacon of light, they’ve got a lot on their hands. That and I believe feign death is for pansies. Hunters were given a bubble for a [...]

Not going to go into much depth here because I haven’t done anything yet other than annoy a targeting dummy with my new MM rotation, but lets talk about the process of switching to MM.

Well, the original has changed enough that it’s time for a redo of my guide to the DPS spreadsheet (download link). New screenshots, new features, more awesomeness!
I take it back- I have time to post this!

I was reading this thread on elitist jerks, and it looks like at high levels of T8 Ulduar gear, marksman hunters can produce more DPS (modeled) than survival hunters. From the first post: Best MM Template: Total DPS: 7741,32 Hunter DPS: 6636,55 Pet DPS: 1104,77 AP: 8010 Crit: 57,37% Hit: 100% ArP: 282 Shot Queue: [...]

The best DPS raiding pet since patch 3.1 is the wolf. This post will go over how to get one, what to do with it, and how to “configure” it. Heh, “configuring your wolf” is such a min/maxer way of putting it :)

I was so excited about this post, I used two exclamation points in the title. That’s one over my budget, but I’ll just have to try and save one from another post sometime. Well, the servers have been up and down like a toilet seat. I haven’t been able to play for long, and we [...]

Final edit may 20 2009- got the new version screenshotted and updated here. I won’t be keeping this one up to date any more- follow the above link for the most recent version. I’ve talked about this before and mentioned that it can be a little daunting to use, so here’s how to use the [...]
Pets!

As as survival hunter, you can expect your pet to be a very minor contribution to your damage. In fact, if a pet dies in a boss fight, it typically takes him 5-10 times as long as the revive pet spell cast time to simply replace the damage you would have done had you not stopped to bring the little guy back. Still, 10%-20% of your damage comes from it, so if you respecced from beast mastery, count your blessings. The one skill you bring over to survival that many survival hunters never bothered learning is keeping a pet alive.

patch 3.1 edit: while some of this is still good, patch 3.1 changed the game a little for survival. Here’s the guide, and here’s the shot rotation. OK, I’ve rambled on about how to play a survival hunter, but unless you have a good spec, you’re still going to suck, even if you take all [...]
