A lot of hunters are starting to get into PvP, if only to fill in some gaps in their raiding gear. A lot of hunters don’t have access to epic PvE head and shoulders, and using Vicious Gladiator pieces in those slots can be a DPS increase, especially when you consider the 70 agility from the two piece bonus. Also, the PvP ranged weapons have the same ranged DPS as their PvE counterparts, and as we all know, especially for marksmanship hunters, weapon DPS has far more of an impact on your DPS than even agility, let alone the secondary stats like crit and mastery. The PvP weapons have the same agility and weapon DPS, and generally trade one of the secondary stats for resilience.

The 359 PvP weapon is purchasable for 3400 Conquest points, and is probably a significant upgrade over any blue, and possibly even over the new ZA 353 PvE weapons. As always, femaledwarf.com should be used to ensure that this is the case.

The next step of PvP weapon is the 372 Vicious Gladiator, and this is more DPS than anything in the game short of a heroic raiding weapon. It’s not the easiest weapon to obtain, though, since you need to have a 2200 rating in 3v3 or 5v5. 2v2 doesn’t count because Blizzard doesn’t balance around duels or 2v2, instead focusing on groups of 3 or 5. There is a good chance that you will want at least some of your addons with you on the PTR, such as Recount for DPS testing.  If you are like me, you also will have limited patience and time for reconfiguring your addons to your exact specifications from scratch.  This post offers help with these issues, explaining how to import both your addons and your addons’ settings to the ptr.

Hi folks, Shadowstreak here! I’m back to talk about a few small mods, so lets all put our cheering hats on for eAlign, Baud Mark and CloseUp!

eAlign

eAlign solves an issue that many mod-appreciative players face every day. So if you’ve ever asked yourself, are they the same distance from the edge? Then eAlign is the mod for you!

A simple command of ‘/align’ brings up an overlaid grid, which, when covering then entire span of your interface, makes the job of positioning and aligning things a cakewalk in the park! (more…)

There are a few different DoT/Proc timing mods available. They all have their own different pros and cons and different selling points. Some of which might actually influence which one players end up settling with.

Hunters in their own aren’t all about the DoTs. We have Serpent Sting and that’s just about it. Unlike marks hunters with Chimera Shot, its much more vital for survival and BM hunters to track the duration of SS so they can refresh it on their own when it runs low. (more…)

Edit: sorry for the belated gotchya edit, but needless to say, this was my April fools joke. The video, if played, will bait you with about 10 seconds of hunter gameplay, and then rickroll you.

Huge thanks to StellarX (blog) for volunteering to let me abuse his game footage for this- I owe you one! Also, huge thanks to Anne at wow.com for helping me glue these two videos together!

The addon is still in development, and I promise that as soon as it’s ready, I’ll let you all know!

You guys remember that post where I talked about an addon that would analyze your actions during boss fights and tell you where you can eek out a little more DPS? Well, it’s still in private beta, but I wanted to release a preview video.

The addon basically counts the number of times you delay an auto shot because you’re moving (or facing the wrong way), as well as some other nifty features like telling you when you are re-applying a sting without a good reason, or firing a steady shot when canceling it and using some other shot would have been more DPS.

Of course, it’s not perfect- it doesn’t understand the fight mechanics or anything, so you won’t be able to compare your Festergut DPS to, say, your Blood Queen DPS, but you can let it collect data week over week and it will tell you how your performance is improving!

Leave a comment here if you have any feedback, for now.

Shadowstreak will be writing about addons, since Faeghleis is taking a break from the game until Cataclysm.

Hello there OutDPS readers! Today we’ll be talking about OmniCC!

I decided to start with this because it’s a small, yet really useful mod. I’ll get to the staples of the mod world in further posts. Unlike what the name suggests, OmniCC has absolutely nothing to do with crowd controlling. I’m sure some of you out there might actually find that this mod alone will be able to increase your DPS! Not just for hunters, but any class that has an action bar. (more…)

There’s a common practice (often highlighted over at the greedy goblin) where people will make money off distracted (or rushed or just plain stupid) hunters by selling stacks of 100 ammo for only slightly less than the price of 1000. Depending on whether you use an auction addon or not, these stacks may even be displayed identically to you.

I am not blaming the guys who try this- in a free market, you can sell anything you want, and it’s the responsibility of the buyer to avoid being screwed. This might fall under the category of “false advertising” if your auction interface shows you the same graphic for 100 as it does 1000 (often something like “10…” for a stack size), but the reality is that they can’t overtly lie to us about the stack size. We need to have installed an addon that hides the true stack size from us. The default UI shows it.

That or we are running late for our raid prep and are just distracted.

Here’s the plan:

  • When you buy ammo, don’t be a sucker. Double check in any way possible that the stack size is 1000 (or if you do want to buy 100 at a time for some reason, make sure you’re not getting fleeced). Turn off your auction addons if they’re configured so you can’t see this. Or even better, configure them so they sort by unit price instead of stack price.
  • If you are an engineer (especially if you are able to make epic ammo), make sure that you list at least some of your stock for sale in 100 stacks, priced at a similar unit price you use for your 1000 stacks. This will push the fleecers’ auctions below the fairly priced ones. If someone accidentally buys a 100 stack, at least they won’t have been charged 10x the amount.
  • Whether you’re an engineer or not, if you want to help and have enough cash to do this, buy full sized stacks and re-list them in stacks of 100. Heck, you might even make a profit doing this. Just don’t list them for 10x what they would cost if the buyer were fully aware of the situation.

Hunters, more than any other class, are a community. I can tell this by the fact that there are so many of your contributing in in so many ways. From answering questions on forums to writing guides and starting blogs, there’s something about this class that bonds people who play it together.

This particular auction strategy directly targets us. If you read this and say “Oh, I’m going to make sure that doesn’t happen to me”, then it was worth my time to write it. If any of you take further steps to reduce the number of people who get tricked into buying 100 stacks for the price of 1000, then it was really worth it.

Myself, I’m doing this for blue and epic arrows, because that’s what I happened to have available. Once I get a chance to set up a supply chain (probably by bugging Darkbrew), I’ll try to make sure that there’s always 50 stacks of 100 bullets and arrows, both blue and epic, all priced at around a tenth of the price of a stack of 1000.

Welcome the the latest installment of Musings on Mods! Today, we’re going to talk about the Boss Tactics addon.

Boss Tactics is an a phenomenal tool to make your raid run more smoothly. What it does is allows synchronized graphical walk through of boss encounters. “Huh” I hear you ask? Boss Tactics let’s you and everyone in your raid to see the same thing at the same time for the strategy for the encounter. The addon is laid out in a very clear and concise manner: instance selection and bosses are at the top followed by custom text options and details about trash. Looking down to the left is where the heart if the addon lies, in a screenshot section where movable pins are located. The raid leader (or raid assistants) have control of these pins. But that’s just the beginning, not only is every pin move broadcasted to the raid keeping everyone in sync, you can also ping and draw on this screenshot section. If you need to illustrate a complex maneuver it’s extremely simple and intuitive to do. (more…)

This is a short guide to help people get started raiding. Much of the advice is not class specific, however it was inspired by an email I got from a fresh level 80 hunter, who had never grouped for an instance. (more…)

Thanks to everyone who shared their wisdom about cooldown timing yesterday- I’m going to do some simulations and try to determine what will give us the most DPS. Today, I’d like to solicit some more hunter hearth wisdom about addons and configurations.

Most of us have an addon that we use to track procs, cooldowns, buffs, and maybe debuffs. I’d like to hear about how you do it. Personally, I am using a quick and dirty powerauras setup that I plan on overhauling. I’m looking for the following types of info:

  • How do you track cooldowns?
  • What kind of cooldowns do you track (shots only, internal cooldowns for lock and load or greatness, longer cooldowns like rapid fire or pots)?
  • How do you track buffs and debuffs?
  • What types of buffs and debuffs do you track (class buffs, boss armor debuffs, hunters mark)?

Like yesterday, feel free to go into as much depth as you want. if you don’t like posting but still want to contribute, my email is outdps@gmail.com.

Here is my gold making 101 introduction post. This is a bit of a shift from my regularly scheduled content, but as was eloquently stated in a comment in my last post, “as a raider I need to fund my habit” :)

These posts will be tagged and categorized separately from the regular nonsense firehose aimed at your teacup browsers, and will endeavor to give you the tools you need to make the money you need without resorting to farming or dailies. Without any further ado: (more…)

[Rip's editor's note: Jurgwena is back today to talk about Arena UIs. We're going to keep the ratio of PvE to PvP high, but this is exciting stuff for me! Anyways, left to my own devices today, you'd all have been stuck reading the type of nonsense I write when I can't think of any topics for a guide.]

Hey everyone. As promised, this article will explain how to craft the perfect arena UI. To get ready for this article, I downloaded some new mods and totally redid my own UI.  For starters, I want to discuss what mods you should be using, and then what your UI should do for you. After that I’ll address more specific tips that will help you get the most out of a UI, and then at the end hopefully we’ll have time for a quick discussion on keybinds. Well, my old UI wasn’t cutting it any more. I’ve ignored it as long as possible, and when 3.1 hit, I could ignore it no longer. 6 abilities that need to be woven around each other does not lend itself well to my old 1-2-3-4 SV keybindings. I’m also not willing to install any new addons! What’s a hunter to do? (more…)
