Re PVP. Couple of comments:
> regarding sources of info. AJ is OK but not necessarily the best place to go as it can be difficult to sort out the good info from all the QQ especially for a beginnner. If you are serious about PVP it is worth considering a subscription to Skill Capped (tks btw, original info for this came from your interview with Loincloth). Also worth checking out is Braindeadly’s youtube channel to see one of the best hunters in the world in action (parental advice warning though :). See here for his excellent guide on macros http://www.youtube.com/user/braindeadlyeu#p/u/2/BOLTAV4qWJk Another great hunter is Tosan, he also has a channel here http://www.youtube.com/user/TosanTribe/featured. Both are MM. For BM best source is probably Gars Hunters Lodge.
> Regarding Kill Command or not for BM. I hadnt really thought about this and use KC. However I think think there is some validity in this suggestion, though it can depend on play style.
Not using KC makes sense if you factor in what the target nature/abilities. Broadly there are 3 possible targets
>> Melee: most of which have plate and/or other physical damage mitigation abilities
>> Ranged: Who in PVP will constantly be on the move and often spamming cc to keep melee off them
>> Healers: Who will be doing both of the above.
End result is that in practice KC can be difficult to execute reliably and the targets it can hit most easily tend to be plate wearers so its damage is reduced.
In terms of burst, which is key to PVP, dropping KC makes a difference but not as big as it might seem. I did some dummy testing using PVP gear (6 Cat items others S11 ruthless) + Vishanka, just for the 10s duration of Bestial Wrath. Arcane spam scored 19-23kDPS (forging crit) . Forging mastery and using KC (so twice during the burst) on cooldown was 19-25KDPS. The difference isnt really that great and it only needs one failed KC (because target out of pet range or because its hitting a plate) for Arcane spam to be more reliable.
How many time in PvP does a hunter get LoS’s (Arena mostly)? KC still works while LoS’d, majority of the time player arent going to let you spam arcane when they see you pop BW.
I was simply observing that in terms of burst DPS, which will get you a kill, spamming arcane does not seem to be too different from KC+arcane regards DPS and in some cases, due to reliability or target armour may be more effective.
Ofc if you are losed a KC is better than nothing but then if you are losed a KC every 6s isnt going to get you a kill either.
Just a quick comment regarding the ret paladins that you guys talked at length about at the beginning of the podcast. What happened was they put in the vengeance change but missed a few abilities (mainly CC’s with a small damage element attached). They hot fixed this quickly so there was no testing done on it which is what caused the crazy paladin buff. It’s not like they just ignored problems that existed in the PTR, it was a hot fix that caused the wonky paladin damage.
<3 the show guys keep it up :D
I came back to listen to get my hunter fix. I don’t think SWTOR is a WoW killer but I definitely enjoy playing it more than WoW. But one thing they do have as developers and moderators in their forums (which have their share of hate and even wow love) is that they are responsive more than I had ever seen the wow development community.
If serious issues are raised by enough people it is pretty directly responded to by the developers. Hunters wait for almost an expansion to get acknowledgment it is a different vibe I have seen posts from devs within a week on SWTOR. The moderators actively consolidate threads. There was a thread about big butt appearance I was like man that’s getting closed and it was within minutes with the following. We are closing your thread to redirect it to the following big butt (linked) so that we may gather information about this item in character appearance. That tells me people at least get heard which is why I play SWTOR and not wow.
I still love you guys and the awesome work you do. Heck you have enough fans to crash FTP servers and the reason is because you are so awesome!
