The big news of the 2011 Global Battle.net Invitational is that a team with a hunter on it managed to come out on top. And it is news because, well, nobody expected any team with a hunter to do this well.
The winning team was OMG, a PHDK comp of a holy paladin, a marksman hunter, and an unholy death knight. In the final they went up against Skill Capped, a team of a holy paladin, a frost mage and an affliction warlock. The matches are fun to watch and pretty tense at times. You can find the videos here. You can watch them without a virtual ticket.
If someone knows how to contact these guys (or can speak Korean), sent me an email! outdps@gmail.com
This is the hunter, Jungyup:

I see that in Korea, he represents the Horde as an Oak Fire Hunter. This makes me feel better for rooting for his Ally incarnation during the tournament.
It’s funny, already ive seen dopes going on about how hunters need to be nerfed in pvp now because of this one super pro guy /facepalm!
The trolls are definitely out in force after this one. They’ll be using this anecdote for ages to say that all hunter grievances are baseless and that anyone who notices a problem just needs to “l2p.”
The trolls won’t be right, but the hunter community nevertheless has to take this win seriously and consider what it means and doesn’t mean for the place of hunters in high-end pvp.
The class imo requires a high skill level to be playing at gladiator level, more so than a lot of other classes.
And exactly as you say, the whole ‘l2p’ comment will be used. Coupled with omg no dead zone.. tbh i see the possible incoming nerfs to hunters in pvp to ‘balancelol’ the fact we have no dead zone being the breaking point.. more so.
Watching the Q&A’s at blizzcon just reafirmed the fact that to me it seems like they are just throwing whatever out and giving the same old replies… its a pity next to none of the people who asked questions actually try to counter argue some of the crap coming out.. most of em just bowed their heads and said thank you and troddled off.
Best was the girl talking about totems, her question wasnt really answered to her liking and she just gave this ‘thanks fot nothin douchebag’ look as she walked off.
But on topic i think the main point is. Hunters are viable in arena ‘if your bloody pro, or not human like some of the asians’ .. now the counter to that will of course ‘lol l2p noob’. Which is fine, people need to improve.. but where the big issue is imo is that the skill level is so high compared to other classes, thats where the main problem is.
It’s L2Jungyup in the forum with Braindeadly’s post on hunter tournament viability getting the most abuse. Jungyup was great! Awesome positioning the other team left him alone I would like to interview them.
Despite the announcer shouting about his crazy damage ( in fact at one point saying he was doing crazy damage while he was behind a pillar getting healed).
Jungyup was absolutely awesome but those 2 partners of his could have carried a monkey, or, even me, if they wanted to exert themselves.
It will be enough though to ensure hunters get nothing. But. Grats to Jungyup he is a hunter hero.
I say if Euripedes wants him on the show have a blond girl email him the invite.
Dang I phone sorry Euripides
