We know that developers attempt to balance around all sorts of mathematical factors like itemization, target hit points, burst vs. sustained dps, etc. However, they evaluate non-mathematical factors as well. This post discusses how developers balance around hunter class identity.

Encouraging Blue Post on Hunter PVP
Posted in Hunter, pvp, World of Warcraft, tagged blue post, pvp on August 18, 2011 | 10 Comments »
Zarhym sat down down in the forums tonight and talked pvp with folks. Out of that discussion we got this somewhat encouraging post about hunter pvp: I need to talk to the devs about the balance feedback I’m seeing echoed in here. That still doesn’t guarantee I’ll get right back to you tomorrow on this stuff, but [...]

Transmogrification!
Posted in Offtopic, pvp, World of Warcraft, tagged pvp, transmogrification on August 17, 2011 | 13 Comments »
First thing I’m going to do with this is transmogrify all my PvP gear to look really dumb. Trying to decide whether I should go for BC-leveling-greens-clown-suit, or classic old season gear. Maybe I’ll use a stealth pet and wear shammie mail! Should make basing a kill priority decision much harder :)

Another Pet Summon Bug

The recent patch appears to have introduced a new pet summon bug. It will cause a pet to sometimes appear after a summon with no pet action bar and be unresponsive to commands.
Finally, a Gun

I got my gun tonight. After weeks of grinding CP I’m finally again able to make use of my dwarven racial bonus.
Viability and Optimality
Posted in World of Warcraft, tagged optimal, viable on August 8, 2011 | 5 Comments »
Viability and optimality are concerns that come up often in raiding and PVP because in both settings players are very concerned with what works and what is best. Indeed, hunter theorycrafting and strategizing is driven chiefly by these concerns. However, viability and optimality do not have independent meanings. They always depend on context. Read on after the break [...]

Why is Focus Allegedly Too Weak in PVP?
Posted in arena, battlegrounds, pvp, World of Warcraft, tagged focus, pvp on August 1, 2011 | 28 Comments »
To the PVE hunter, Focus can seem perfectly fine. It satisfies the costs of a rotation. It requires enough management to be interesting but not enough to be distracting. It can largely be considered a successful class change on Blizzard’s part. But many PVP hunters think otherwise. The official forums are riddled with threads about issues related [...]
