Yes, SV is getting its damage reduced. However, there’s a lot more going on in this patch that merits our attention. I’d really encourage you to read the whole set of patch notes. If you need an incentive, know that there’s gems like this:
Hunters can now use Auto Shot while moving.
Wow.
This is fucking lame, why they’re still nerfing us?
Yeah this change is new for today and it is wicked.
I think it makes a lot of sense, I mean we are supposed to be closer to the melee classes in terms of function than the casters. What do all melee have in common? Auto-attacking while moving!
Cheers,
Gav
I’m trying to work out if we will infact get a net nerf or not now.
They are rebalancing MM and BM which is well needed, but SV we have 15% reduction in about 50-60% of our total damage (BA and ExP Short) and 5% agi loss from into the wildness (or whatever it’s called), while we gain auto shot while moving and 15% increase in Arcane shot. That together with the corbra shot that will be reworked once they figure out the bug with haste and new meta, which should enable us to use red gems all the way, we should be doing well.
Maybe i have read all this wrong, and although we’d have got the meta and agi bonus anyway with 4.0.6 i’m thinking we won’t see that much of a dps loss.
Also of note in this most recent set of patch notes is they reverted the change to Serpent Spread.
I was happy about this too. Now it won’t matter if Serpent Spread overwrites a normal sting.
Did they also reverse the multi shot change that reduced the number of targets that are stinged from unlimited to 6? A quick look at wowpedia shows that was removed from patch notes but that site is not always the best reference. (But is viewable from work.)
Yes, it’s reversed, at least for now.
What is the bug with cobra shot and haste?
It’s not a bug, at least according to a recent blue post. Designers just changed the coding to make it more elegant; the in-game effect should not be noticeable.
Blizzard are really starting to fry my brain with all the Hunter changes. It’s good, it’s bad, it’s good, it’s bad, the sky is falling, the sun is out.
I have to confess that I’ve all but benched my Hunter until the changes all settle down a bit. The fact that one spec is so far ahead of the two other specs suggests that there is a whole lot wrong around Hunter balance at the moment.
To be honest the auto shot while moving isn’t a huge deal to me. Yes, it will make life a lot easier for a lot of players, but it’ll probably open us up to more ‘face roll’ name calling. The ability to ‘shoot and scoot’ (moving while maintaining a decent auto shot cycle) was one of the ways you could really differentiate a good hunter from an average one.
I’d prefer they removed the minimum range requirement so you can stack up with a group and continue to use your ranged weapon rather than navigate the dead zone. Imagine if mages couldn’t cast spells if they were within 3 yards of their target. Can’t see why hunters should be treated any different in that respect?
Well, using your argument to leave in the no auto shot while moving being a good filter between good huntering and bad huntering…minimum range (while I agree is stupid) does help to do the exact same thing, especially in PvP. Good hunters know the tricks of the trade to escape those close quarters. Bad Hunters die.
Honestly, I am not playing a hunter based on anyone else’s ease or difficulty. I don’t do it to show off how leet I may be, or how op the class is. I do it because I love it. I love being a Hunter and all the abilities, utilities, and dues-paying that comes with having my shiny gold Hunter decoding ring.
Any changes that make it easier for me to be a Hunter I am not wholly opposed to…whether or not others find it easier is inconsequential.
I hear you though….sometimes when its too easy you fear others will be looked upon as good when they aren’t. Or those that are good are viewed as weak players playing a face-rolling class. Valid to be concerned…I suppose, but not really worth one’s time IMO.
Quite frankly, I don’t know of anyone that really pays attention to whether or not the hunters in their group are stutter-stepping. People are paying more attention to their own mechanics and rotations, and the boss fights to care at all whether hunters are getting in as many auto-shots as possible.
Not being able to auto-shoot while moving has been a clunky mechanic from day one. We’re not casters. We’re more akin to the melee classes, in that we’re physical damage dealers. There’s no reason we shouldn’t be able auto-shoot while moving. So many fights require you to not stand still for longer than like 2 seconds, and Marks in particular has always been gimped on movement-heavy fights. With auto-shot improved, along with AotF, we’ll finally be able to be more competitive on fights that don’t let you stand still for very long.
I do agree they should remove the minimum range requirement, as that just gets annoying. Hello Raptor Strike, the most useless ability we have right now. Well I suppose I haven’t used Immolation Trap in forever, either.
I’d rather have blizz keeping the 25% nerf to BA and ES than them making playing a hunter total faceroll. It’s not like playing a hunter is insanely hard or anything, so this change to auto shot is just gonna make us really, REALLY easy to play. My 10 year old little brother is gonna do as much dps as I am on movement fights with this change.
Well, there goes any reason to ever use jumpshots again. Currently, you can revert to jumpshots when not casting Cobra/Steady Shot. But, looks like strafing is the way to go. Doesn’t look as badass, but I am not passing up the chance to perforate my target while kiting it.
