I’m pretty worried for survival. It may need a nerf, although not as heavy as some people believe. I’ve seen ret doing 15k single target in a heroic with pretty modest gear.
My fear is that Blizzard doesn’t have a good track record when it comes to nerfing classes shortly after launch. They are almost always extremely heavy handed, and in some cases relegate a spec to joke status.
If and when they nerf survival they will most assuredly buff Marks and BM and I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them ends up on top. Sadly I have major issues with Marks as a tree. Master Marksmen and Marked for death compete for the most boring five talent points you can spend (holy priests’ renew talents are up there as well). BM will always suffer in any target switching encounter, of which there are many.
Right now, regardless of dps, Survival is more fun and brings better utility.
I don’t feel like a nerf is necessary. As an SV Hunter in mostly 346 items right now, I do more than others relatively speaking on encounters…but not always.
The biggest point I make to folks now a days is it is NOT about that dps meter…more so than ever before. It is about survivability and party/raid utility first and foremost. Its easy to say thats how it was in BC and Wrath, but the reality is most times people pewpew’d and cared for little else. If they died, they just blamed bad healing or bad luck.
When I am doing 12k on a boss in Heroic Stonecore, and a rogue and lock are close behind at 8.5, or 10k….None of us are screaming NERF THE HUNTER!
I think they will be cognizant of the community outcry or lack thereof.
