Scare beast is my new favorite spell. Make sure it’s glyphed! Why is this my favorite spell? Use cases follow, however: scare beast is the only spell that can make a furry druid hit their head on the keyboard so hard, you can hear it through the internet. They never expect it because it never gets used on them.
- You know how in Warsong Gulch, some damn slippery druid always grabs the flag, gets a 10 yard lead on people, swaps to travel form, and just outruns people across the field? You can mount up after you’re out of combat and try to catch up to it, but generally they have a nasty lead. Scare beast has a 30 yard range. Never mind concussive shot, web, or traps. Every time a druid shifts to travel form, fear them, get between them and wherever they need to run, drop a trap, and knock them out. If you’re marks, you should probably use readiness right after your first few shots, allowing you to apply a (shorter, due to diminishing returns) second fear on them, as well as another trap.
- You know how in Arathi Basin, sometimes you bravely decide to solo cap a seemingly undefended node? Well, 9 times out of 10, there’s a stealthed feral druid there. If anything that can stealth gets the jump on you (rogues especially, but even cats), you’ll have to be more skilled or geared to win the fight. Standard defenses for this type of thing are to avoid riding in a straight line to the flag, throw a flare from 20 yards or so, set your pet to aggressive and autocast web or pin, change tracking to hidden, drop a trap, and then start on the flag. This will give you (or, well, your pet) the opener, hopefully. As soon as the furry druid gets webbed by your aggressive pet, throw down your scare beast. Unless they trinket out of it, that alone might be enough time to cap the flag! If they do, at least you’ve robbed them of their opener.
- You know how it takes 4 well geared pure DPS classes to take down a resto druid in pvp gear? Well, assuming you have a small army with interrupts and CC, that tree might switch to bear form to buy time while reinforcements arrive. When this happens, fear the bear. In addition to looking silly (like it’s sniffing around foraging for something), it also gives you time to reposition. This can be useful if the druid is trying to LoS the DPS or get away. Bear (heh) in mind, however, that any damage will break the fear.
- In any drawn out, evenly matched battle over a node in a battleground, your best strategy is to attack your opponents’ healers, while defending your healers. Their best strategy is to defend their healers and attack yours. Luckily, if they have a feral druid who decides to try to stunlock one of your healers, you can fear it from just about anywhere!
Scare beast is great, I use it all the time in arena/BG’s, as you say, NO ONE expects it.
Its the ultimate mocking when a hunter gts you with scare beast.
I do tend to sceam loudly in vent when i get one off…
i love using scare beast. i’m not much of a pvp’er but back in kara i used to get to use it during the opera event on the Tiger/Lion dude “Roar”…
I have always insisted on using the Scare Beast glyph instead of the Happy Mend Pet glyph. Sure, I run into trouble sometimes if I forget to bring food and we have a series of wipes, but not often. Besides, there’s always Bloodthirsty :)
I have room for both- what else do you use?
Brilliant! I need to remember to use this.
Scare Beast is an awsome spell. Used it in arenas with great results. Love when a resto druid is trying to outrun you in travelform and then get feared :D
