I realize this is an older post and maybe no one will see this, but I noticed my photobucket taking a lot of hits from this site and I tracked it down to here. The screenshot with the Hud-display is mine, and that Hud I use there is Icehud. I've since switched it up quite a bit and wanted to warn people about using visual huds like Icehud. The memory and cpu usage of these visual Huds are normally quite high, particularly in combat, and can lead to your system lagging a bit. If you're doing 25-man raiding, and especially if you're working on a less then top notch computer, you should avoid these types of mods. The mod I use now gives the same info and is called OnScreenHealth. This text only mod is admittedly less visually appealing but performs the same functions as a hud without all the bells and whistles that drag down the performance of any visual huds that I've tried.

I agree with you in principle, however recount does have some live features that can be a requirement. Raid wide DPS during progression can let you decide when to call a wipe, and keeping the dispels or interrupts up can let you remind people who are not doing their job to do it. That said, these are things that only a raid leader would probably need to do.

I'm not saying Recount itself is fail. I love Recount, I use it AFTER every fight. What I hate is seeing UI's with Recount up during fights. It's distracting, unnecessary, and detrimental to performance. "How is that undergeared rogue beating me on Recount? What's he doin--why am I dead? Oh. Fire. Oops." Kill boss, type "/recount show", close window, kill next boss.

Recount is a great tool if used right. Without recount how are you going to know that the reason you wiped because your resto druid was doing 900 HpS, or that hunter with a 5200 gear score is only doing 2.5k DPS (yes has happened) or who is ACTUALLY dispelling. I only run PuGs and this is an indispensable tool for me. Granted I have mine setup to only show when out of combat. I had a problem of worrying about my DPS too much, and it was drawling my attention away from more important things in the fight, like moving out of fire :)

Im sure there might be other Addon that can tell you these things but this is the most efficient and easy to use one that I have found.

That's the thing about UI's, they are and should be very personal things. It's all about finding something that works for you.

This is why I've been reluctant to do a post about my UI, because it's designed by me for me. I definitely sacrifice form for function, and I'm not sure I've hit the nail on that head either.

Nice article btw.

Haha. Excellent. It is the perfect example of a bad UI. ;-)

I've improved my UI a huge bit since then. That was my first day as survival. Actually, probably my first hour as survival. I had about twice as much info as I needed on my screen.

I wouldn't say I've gone to a minimalist view now but it's quite uncluttered. I don't show data I don't need. I don't show numbers if a bar works better. I only show one view of a stat.
