Hey everyone, today I’m going to write a short post about enchanting your gear for PvP. It’s not as straightforward as you might think. What enchants you use obviously depend on your professions, to some extent, but hunters actually have a lot of flexibility and it’s important to know what you’re doing.
Head and Shoulders
To begin with, I’ll address the resilience head and shoulder enchants. I wouldn’t use either of these unless you really need resil for arenas and can’t get close to your target yet. If you have 4 pieces of arena gear and most of the offset pieces, however, or you’re just doing BGs, then you should have the ebon blade helm enchant and hodir shoulder enchant on your pvp gear.
Chest
I would use 10 stats because stamina, intellect, and agility are all great stats for pvp hunters. 20 resilience is fine also, you have to make that decision for yourself.
Wrists
I would use 40 stamina if you arena as survival. Because of hunter vs. wild you get some dps returns from the stam, and it scales well with survivalist. If you’re marks, you will need all the attack power you can get and should rock the 50 AP. Also, MM hunters don’t need stam as much because of their extra cooldowns.
Weapons
For a two hander I would always use massacre, and for one handers I would use 65 AP on one, and a titanium weapon chain on the other.
Boots
You need tuskarr’s vitality for the extra movement speed (and you can get a second pair of boots to put nitro boosts on if you’re an engineer).
Legs
Survival hunters could consider 55 stamina and 22 agility, but marks should definitely use the 75 AP/22 crit one.
Gloves
You really should have 44 AP if you’re marks or beast mastery, and 20 agi if you’re survival. Unless you are an engineer, in which case pyro rockets are your best friend.
[day late brain fart edit follows, thanks to Nakaya for the reminder]
Cloak
There’s obviously the 22 agility option, or if you’re an engineer you have a parachute cloak enchant that provides agility and has great synergy with disengage (not to mention getting you out of tight spots while doing hodir dailies!). There is another really good enchant that some hunters may not have considered using on their cloaks before, and that is the spell penetration enchant. It provides 35 spell pen and is invaluable in reaching any MM or SV hunter’s goal of 75 spell pen.
what resilence do you recommend to have in a 1800 team rating??
I ask this because actually I have the res enchants for head and shoulders.
i like 800-900 is a great number for 3s, can sneak by with a little less in 2s and5s
I’ve heard about Survival Hunters enchanting their cloaks with Spell Penetration for explosive shot. While I haven’t done this myself, I figured I should toss that out there.
Becoming an engineer was one of the most fun things I’ve done in WoW, because of these enchants. The rocket boots alone are glorious. I have caught -so- many people in BG’s by rocketing towards them as they try to get away on mounts.
And the rocket gloves, so much fun. I’ve worked it into my rotation for raids as well, does decent damage and it’s fun.
Just don’t let Rilgon hear you say that :P
I would simply macro your rocket gloves (or the haste enchant) into your steady shot or something. It’s always good to reduce the number of things to think about while raiding, so you can focus on your rotation.
Argh, I totally forgot to mention cloak enchants! Silly me, I’ll edit
Is 65 Attack power better for a 1 hander than 26 Agi, even if you’re PvP’ing as Survival ? My survuval spec has 3 points in Hunting Party (+3% Agi), and of course maxed out Lightning Reflexes (+15% Agi). I’ve got a weapon chain on my other one.
26 agi is probably better for survival, and it’ll give you some crit and dodge which is always nice. I just didn’t mention it because I’m so sick of surv that I have a mental block when it comes to anything related to agility ><
Although agility does not provide us with any dodge, and has not done so for a while
Hey man this isn’t elitistjerks or anything, so forgive me if I come off as a little elitist, but back when I took this game more seriously I would have been deathly afraid of making a comment like yours in a public messageboard in case it led to me being flamed and having my ignorant remark constantly quoted back to me.
Agi most certainly does provide dodge, and I really can’t imagine what made you think otherwise O.o
Good write up! Is 75 spell penetration the magic number for all specs, including BM? How did you get to that number?
Also, for the spell penetration cloak enchant I think you may have the wrong link. It should be the Enchant Cloak – Spell Piercing:

no you don’t need spell pen for BM. 75 is the amount of resistance an improved motw gives.
and thanks for the link! it’s euri’s mistake but don’t blame him because I’m too lazy to put the links in myself
