Patch 3.2.2 will bring about the ability to shatter abyss crystals. This is very probably in response to the massive decline in prices that crystals went through once people realized that a good 5 man group could run regular ToC and reset it as many times a day as they want, disenchanting all the purples they got in the process. This influx of supply brought out a massive cut in price, so on my server, I can easily get them for 30g each, and sometimes for less.
In 3.2.2, the demand for abyss crystals may go up depending on what they can be shattered into. I’m betting that Blizzard’s target for an average price for abyss crystals is not less than 50g, so I bought about 1000 abyss crystals over the last few weeks that I will either shatter myself or sell back to the AH.
This is a low risk investment- the supply of abyss crystals will stay about the same, but the demand will either remain the same (if the result of shattering is a low amount of mats) or go up (if it’s a high amount), but there’s little chance it will go down.
Another prediction- the price of regular mats (infinite dust, cosmic essences) will go down after the patch. If you’re in the enchanting business, don’t let your stock pile up.
Why are you thinking the dust & essence will drop in price? Are those materials what abyss crystals will shatter into?
yes, abyssal shatter will create random quantities of dust and cosmic essences.
It’ll be a welcome change to not have to pay 600 gold to enchant a new 2-hander. The cheaper materials will probably decrease the net gains on a lot of crafting-to-disenchanting schemes out there, though.
I don’t expect to see much more than a minor price adjustment (5% range).
It’s just another source for a standard WoW commodity.
If it does get cheaper, it will from player decline lessening demand rather than a greater supply.
It all depends on the rate that regular mats will be made from abyss crystals. If it’s large, then the price for abyss crystals will go up a lot, and the price for other mats will go down accordingly. Any increase in supply will lower the average market price, and this has the potential to be a big increase in supply.
