Note: This is not the post for today- there’s a really useful looking PvP post cooking.
The outdps blogroll policy has not been written down so far, so now is as good a time as any. Here’s the rules:
- I’ll link to any honest blogger, even if they’re just getting started out. Send me an email if you want me to link to you.
- I prune the blogroll regularly. I’ll periodically remove blogs with no recent updates.
- I like it when people add outdps to their blogroll, but it’s not a requirement for being on our blogroll.
On a side note, my traffic stats are now public- anyone can see how many visitors we get here at outdps by clicking on the link to sitemeter on the bottom right of the page.
edit: Dramatic, out of character, pre-morning coffee grumpiness removed. Apologies all around.
A form letter? Really? If that’s what that was, it should have taken me a lot less time to compose my response. Maybe I’ll try that next time.
And how did “first come, first serve” and the fact that a blogroll a mile long looks shabby translate into “we’re too important to link to you” (even though we do)? It seems to me you simply got your knickers in a twist because you didn’t get what you wanted, and now you’re pulling an “oh yeah?! well, neener neener!”.
Nobody likes getting a rejection letter. My knickers were a little twisted, but it’s your site and you can do what you like with your blogroll.
If my response (which didn’t name anyone specifically) seems out of proportion, bear in mind that all I am doing here is clarifying my blogroll policy. I can live with a long blogroll because the only entity that really uses it for anything is Google, and I got some early inclusions in other sites’ blogrolls that helped me out when I got started.
What I think you failed to realize was that I was simply pointing out fact: THM has been around for a long time. As a result, we get a lot of sites linking to us. We can’t conceivably link back to all of them. We’ve attempted to compromise as best we can, posting links to interesting articles and keeping track of Hunter blogs on our forums, but it’s impossible to please everyone.
Additionally, as I had attempted to point out to you in my responses, I simply treat everyone the same. No Hunter blog is a beautiful and unique snowflake, as it were, and because there are so many out there now, I can’t afford to play favorites. So, I have a few links to other older blogs that I’ve had long-standing relationships with the owners of (typically sites of folks who, like Pike for example, had been part of the THM community from the beginning), but otherwise I just try to maintain the forum thread of links and link to interesting articles as I find them.
As I also pointed out, attempting to guilt me into linking to you and then acting like a petulant child when I don’t is not exactly the best way to get me to do you any favors. Had you responded in a more mature fashion, for example: explaining what makes your site truly unique and a valuable part of the community rather than simply spouting stats and saying you’ve always linked to THM, I may have considered making an exception.
My response to your request was nothing personal, nor was it a “form letter”. I simply explained to you how we do things, the same way I would have anyone else who made the same request. If that makes me the “bad guy” in this scenario, so be it. I’d rather be known as firm but fair than as someone who simply cow tows to anyone who gets bent out of shape.
Like I said, it’s your site- you should feel free to manage it however you like. I corrected my admittedly flippant “form letter” expression after you responded, and I consider the issue resolved.
I would like to say for the record, however, that I do consider this blog a unique and beautiful snowflake.
1,748 hits a day? Dang. What’s your secret? =P
I give out candy.
I can’t help but be somewhat amused by the fact that no matter where you go on the internet, if you stick around long enough, you’ll find internet drama.
Also, dayum I am impressed with the number of hits your blog gets. I was psyched when mine was getting 30 hits a day. But then, mine wasn’t about anything in particular, just me rambling and cursing a lot. And I want some of this candy you mention in another comment.
Lastly, I feel that this whole thing is made more and more petty by the continued comments made here. We’re all hunters, we all like to shoot stuff, we should be on the same side. I suppose I could say less QQ more pew pew? lol. Certainly no need to resort to rude comments.
At any rate, whether this blog is a “unique snowflake” or not, I quite enjoy it. It’s because I found this blog that my DPS shot up to the top, and I’ve always found it interesting. If I had a blog, I would link to it. Well, I do. And I did once. But it’s not a WoW blog. And I’m going to keep reading the blog and enjoying it. So whether or not sites are linking to you, keep up the good work. :)
Also, I await my candy patiently.
((God I ramble.))
Yes, attempting to clarify is petty. How dare I?!
