According to the class Q&A on wow.com:
- They’re replacing mana with energy, like rogues. We’ll have a maximum of 100 focus, and it will regenerate 6/sec (a little slower than rogues’ 10 energy/sec), or a little faster (12/sec) if we use steady shot. No more mana regen, aspect of the viper, or int needed.
- There will be a complete wipe and overhaul of our talent trees. Again.
- They’re probably doing away with most talents that increase chance to hit.
- They’re doing away with armor penetration, and replacing it with “mastery”.
- Haste will now speed up focus regen
- Attack power is gone, replaced with agility.
- There’s a legendary 2h axe called “Shadowmourne”, that whether it’s appropriate or not, we’ll be rolling on :)
- In general, they’re getting rid of training every new rank of abilities- spells will scale with level, no need to drop by the trainer.
- Ammo will no longer be consumable, but be an item.

I really hope they dont mess up this energy thing, I thought mana was fine. Not excited for focus, yet….
I don’t know, it could be an opportunity to set right a lot of things that feel clunky.
So, 6 focus/second, 30-60 focus per shot, that’s between 5 and 10 seconds per shot, less due to double regen with steady. Haste will also shorten this time, but really, are we going to be shooting once every 3-8 seconds or so? Are our shots going to be buffed to compensate? Or is this the Nerf Of All Nerfs?
Also, I’m not entirely certain I’m going to be happy playing what will essentially be an entirely new class: instead of being something akin to phys dps casters, we’re going to be ranged rogues. It hopefully will still feel very huntery, but yes, we will be learning how to play all over again. Throw out all your spreadsheets!
Actually we’re getting focus like our pets, although thats probably more semantics then mechanics.
I think you misunderstood “mastery”. Mastery seems to be the concept of removing plain “+10%damage”-bonuses from the talent trees and integrating them into a seperate mastery-tree. e.g.: if you spend 30 points in beastmastery you get “pet-mastery: your pet deals 20% more damage”.
This is supposed to be a step to reduce the number of “must-have” talents and to allow customization through talents. You no longer will have to sacrifice damage for utility talents.
That’s basically what I assumed it would be. I didn’t mean to imply that mastery is simply eliminating armor pen, but that is one example that was specifically asked at the class Q&A.
just an observation on the pvp side of things. Hunters using focus will give us a cool way to distinguish ourselves from the rest of the hunter crowd. Currently mana is just a stat that we ignore until we run out, but keeping track of your focus and spending (or saving) the right amt of it to achieve and objective adds a whole new level to hunter play

Hunters will totally change and think focus rege would have been more than 6/sec. I hope blizzard should fix it and give us items to increase focur regen. Nevertheless it sounds very interesting and I am waiting to play ASAP. I wonder how the new talents are, if some have an idea where to get them pls mail me thanks. milton_malacatonche@hotmail.com

Focus is going to give hunters the BURST damage that they are lacking. I think that focus is going to make playing a hunter much more fun.
Great, I swear when blizzard fucks the classes up they should give the option to refund all your money for Dual talents,Epic Flying,Cold Weather and Grant your acct 80 grants a levels and delete the fail character im not going to enjoy this change in pvp having to basically stay still and fire Steady Shot to regen my energy enough to lay trap or concussive shot.. Say Goodbye to hunters.
Finally! Hunters get a waaaayyyy overdue well deserved nerf into the GROUND! Oh can’t wait until cat, revenge is sweet.
