I changed guilds. I went from a small guild of close friends that schedules 10 mans and pugs 25 mans to a big guild that schedules 25 mans and “off-nights” 10-mans . It was a hard decision to make. I really like my old guild.
Pros:
- No arms warriors
- I get 25 man T8 gear
- These folks are really really efficient
- The new raiding schedule is easier on my family
- I get to raid with some bloggers (and former bloggers) I read
Cons:
- Non PUG 25 man raids are not conducive to the vent atmosphere I enjoyed in my close knit 10 man guild… vent is kept clear so that the tanks and healers can be heard (I know! Astounding!)
- These guys don’t know me from Adam (yet…)
Well, I tried out and was accepted. We blasted through 6 T8 bosses on 25 man, no wipes, no downtime. I got achievements and didn’t die once. I learned how well these fights can be done if everyone tows the line. Weighing the pros and cons, it only made sense for me to switch, and I’m sure that with time, I’ll be as attached to this bunch of galoots as I was to my first guild.

Grats and I’m jealous, as I find myself in similar situation that you just got out of.
I wasn’t able to raid w/my guild last night and instead of replacing me w/ranged DPS, the opted to bring in a Drama Llama instead. /sigh.
Well, there wasn’t much drama in my old guild, but we certainly didn’t have to roster to do 25 Ulduar, and that’s something I made the decision I wanted to see bad enough that it would be worth the hard process of starting over and leaving friends :(
Yeah, having a good guild is the most important thing in raiding. It does suck to leave friends, but it’s not like the friends all disintegrated upon you leaving the guild, they can still be your friends. And now you can progress as a raider.
I sort of lucked out with my guild, Kingship of the East, because one of my friends irl was in it, and he convinced myself and a few others to join. We’re an RP guild that raids, and we do both quite well.
And I was horrified when I started raiding, everyone else seemed to know each other, I only knew a couple of my friends irl, but now people in my guild know who I am and we have a lot of fun. I’m sure switching up to a bigger guild will give you even more opportunities to make all kinds of new friends. :)
That’s a tough decision but I think you did the right thing. I’ve been angsting over changing guilds forever. As it stands – if I don’t – I’ll never see a consistent *nax* run.
Much less *ever* get into the big U.
If nothing else, it’s an opportunity to flex ones emo muscle… ;)
